About Hannah
I am co-creator of SEER movement, dancer, movement practitioner, event holder, creator of SEER studio, educator, mother.
My aim is for you and for all humans to feel love and feel free.
My work is predominantly with women, but I remain open to working with anyone who wishes to attune deeper to their body, this earth and to nourish their being from within.
My journey began as a teenager and young woman. I was thirsty to find a new way of living and belonging; I was also under the hard fist of an eating disorder. In short I was trying to fly away from this body and not fully engage in the world I felt bewildered by. I followed the path of dance, which is the path of knowing your body and studying how you show up in the world. It was not the conventional dance path, it was, however, soul fuelled and I was lucky to land in the hands of two of the most remarkable women as life long teachers, Mishaal Mahari and Colleena Shakti, and a whole flock of dancers and women in the international dance community who continued to shape and carve my understanding of what freedom, clarity, strength, hard work, tenderness, love and compassion can look like, what womanhood can look like, what a spirit led life can look like.
I spent years studying, performing, touring, working with artists, poets, musicians, clubs and dancers, in and out of the globally infused generation of the early 2000s and beyond. Our initiative and intention was to bridge and transcend cultural misunderstanding and share life with one another in friendship, kindness, and a shared love of living fully; together we explored musical, embodied and esoteric tools in which to do that. I worked directly and studied directly with dancers and musicians who were fully immersed in their craft, pure legends who I am eternally grateful to have met and learnt under; Rachel Brice, Jill Parker, Carolena Nericcio, Mira Betz, Delilah Flynn, & Sonia Ochoa. I put in 1000s & 1000s of hours moving and attuning to the beloved rhythms & movements of what is known as ‘belly dance’ or ‘Middle Eastern music’, though both these terms we know now to be colonialist in their core. I know so much of the beauty and the pain of each cultural concept connected to ‘belly dance’, for I experienced so much of it first hand, just as I know the beauty and pain of my own culture’s behaviours. We all have cultural gifts and we all have traditions that cause harm. With deep respect always, I believe it is up to each generation to ensure they pass the jewels and not the destruction, the nutrition and not the prejudice, to learn with respect and discern with wisdom.
I spent long hours also studying Odissi at the Shakti school of dance, Rajasthan, (Indian Classical dance) though my skill was not in dancing this art, but in showing up for the sweat inducing, deeply demanding training we did each day, and the stories and the myth and the philosophy it lit up in the psyche. I have a long relationship with yoga, a deeply involved practice of Chinese medicine and Qi gong.
For a decade I co-ran one of London’s dance communities and performance nights, FireWater, alongside the awe inspiring Philippa Moirai. FireWater was where International dancers were hosted, performance pieces were created, dance learning was weekly and life long connections were forged.
When I became pregnant I took a long quest with dance, and as my teacher Mishaal would say, took a deeper trip into the mystery. Led by her example I let myself fall into how music & transcendent aspects of dance could lead us in our ever transforming bodies and souls. My pregnancy with my son poured out like an extended dreamtime and culminated in his birth, held and supported by every single drop of expansion I had experienced through knowing, listening, and sitting in trance with the body.
In the years that followed, observing and experiencing the post natal and potent body, the myriad of ways that women’s bodies and psyches are changed through pregnancy and birth, the thousand beautiful and painful experiences we go through, I deep dived into women’s health, and healing.
This perspective forms SEER : dance and movement, with a micro internal gaze into the body where every movement spirals out from within, supported by a repertoire of somatic practices devoted to nourishing our full deep health.
I studied and became a practitioner of Integrative Breathflow, Integrative Pelvic health, & Holistic Somatic healing with Sanja Hurem of Embodied Movement Arts. I also began developing practice as a RoHipping practitioner, a massage devoted to healing the post partum mother, with Rocio Alarcon. I had already studied birth extensively from 2010, and am certified as a birth worker under the guidance of Michel Odente and Aimee Hamblyn. I am a Well Woman practitioner under the guidance of Uma Dinsmore Tuli.
From 2017 I have also been deeply immersed in The Heroine’s Path. Created by Jade, Laura and myself, entwining Environmental Arts Therapy, somatics, dreaming, and Community ritual ; We have held one another and many others to reach down into freeing ourselves of our internal blocks, society’s blocks and creating more nurturing stronger ways of living as a human on this earth and in our communities. I was honoured to work with many women in a profound therapeutic holding.
Long hours dropping in to Nervous system work through breath and the pelvis led me to understand deeply that so many of us have to reclaim and relearn safety and agency in our own bodies. This is a deep layer of body work. It is now integral to every branch of SEER movement.
My aim through SEER is that we rewrite our experience with movement, dance, our deep internal bodies, & the parts of our being that are still, even now, considered taboo.
I devote myself to making each class/session accessible, obtainable and heartfelt.
I yearn to gift deep health in the capacity that I can, to each person that comes to me.
I also love to lead you back to a place where you can claim beauty, tenderness and cosmic connection as a natural part of your living habits.
This is us, lucky to be alive. Present, taking up space, aiming with every step to bring more love into the world. Let’s do all that we can to honour our bodies, honour life, honour each other and honour this great cosmic planet.
